I received this note recently:

“I see many spirits while meditating with my eyes closed but…while doing deeper meditating. While I was reading and learning more…a black cat appeared on my chair in front of me. I thought is was a shadow and looked away. Then it came closer and I saw its yellow eyes. It startled me so I looked away again, when it was right in front of the third time it really startled me. I have no idea what it means? Do you?”

One of the biggest pitfalls of meditation students here in the US is that they learn a huge mish-mash of practices, some of which are dangerous because they overstimulate the etheric centers, aka, chakras. Chakras are like gates or valves in your physical-etheric body.

The etheric body is the electro-magnetic body which matches the physical. It is the cause of the physical body whereas the dense physical body is like the shadow cast by the energy body. When the centers open too far, too fast or too much, then the senses corresponding to those chakras begin to let you see, hear, feel/sense, smell and taste the next dimension. Usually this opens the person to negative forces because of impurities in your consciousness.

All but the most profoundly simple mindfulness practices are unsafe for the most meditation students. Other practices read about in books, or listened to on audio or DVD can be dangerous. It is unwise to engage in energy practices without the supervision of an authentic spiritual teacher. Real spiritual teachers who have authentic training, experience and a long lifetime of insight are hard to find in the US because every Tom, Dick and Harriet who has taken a few classes pretends to be a spiritual teacher.

Remember the phrase, “love many, trust few?” This applies when choosing to listen to a spiritual guide.

My advice is simple: Do not engage spiritual practices out of curiosity or to be able to impress yourself how “advanced spiritually” you are. Remember that insects and most animals can see etheric energy fields or some even lower, dark astral layers of life. This doesn’t mean they are advanced spiritually. Your senses will open when the Solar Angel, aka, Guardian Angel sees your ready to experience more. Many spiritual practices can lead to conditions similar to mental illness, ie, hearing voices, seeing the deceased, smelling the lower strata of the astral plane and so forth. This opens you up to all kinds of chaos.

Do you want to be overwhelmed by negative forces? Of course not!

Practice loving-kindness, compassion, being joyful and serene. These states of heart-mind are far more helpful and “spiritual” than all the practices mentioned in some of the materials offered on the internet, in book stores or in local classes. Cultivation of unconditional love will transform your entire life if engaged with a pure heart.

The future is bright for America and the world. In a recent interview Matt Lauer on NBC’s TODAY Show invited financial genius Warren Buffett, entrepreneurs Tony Robbins, Spanx founder Sara Blakely and the mayor of Houston for a discussion about the future of America. Warren Buffett said at the outset of the interview, “I’m optimistic about America…”

What’s more interesting is why he was so optimistic?

Warren Buffett went on to say, “If you live in America, you’re in the right place…you’re born in the right place at the right time.”

Later in the interview Mr. Warren Buffett went on to say one of the most profoundly optimistic things I’ve ever heard him say. “Tomorrow is always uncertain, but the future is always certain.” What is so important about this is that you can always move forward even if the present moment is tough.

There are three very good reasons to be optimistic at this present time even though we’ve come through four rough years.

The first is look to yourself and your strengths. There is something about you, about the American spirit and vision inside of us as a nation which is hardy, strong and creative. If you have fight in your heart and mind, never give up. You have faced difficulties as has everyone, but we survived and thrive despite challenges. The only person who fails is the one who gives up.

Spanx founder Sara Blakely spoke to the point in the interview with Matt Lauer. She said, “I have faith in myself and my team.” Start with God and move His faith in you into your heart each day as you rise from sleep. And, enter sleep with thanksgiving, optimism and expecting good things. Faith is critical for recovery from any challenge. You must believe for the renewal, healing and rebound to take hold.

The second reason to be optimistic is the process of the power of prayer, law of attraction or holding to a dream. If you have a dream, a vision of a better life for yourself and family, never let go of the dream. It will guide you forward. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, and I am paraphrasing here, “Without a vision, people perish.” To make progress you must have faith in yourself, your dream and someOne or someThing great than yourself which is God.

Roosevelt’s 1933 inaugural speech.”…This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. … They have no vision(referring to those with financial and political power who have allowed, and when there is no vision the people perish.”

President Roosevelt goes on to say in his address, “Small wonder that confidence languishes, for it thrives only on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection, on unselfish performance; without them it cannot live.”

You must be honest with yourself if you wish for a dream to manifest because a dream comes not only from you but from God. God cannot nourish our dreams as a country in the face of constant deceitfulness, nor can He nourish our individual dreams in the face of lying, cheating, duplicity, immoral and/or illegal conduct.

The third reason you live in America where opportunities to improve your plight and that of people around you still exist. We are still a democracy even if financial interests sometimes block progress. There is still hope in our constitution, in our electoral system and making positive change. More important is you have a chance to improve yourself. We have a tremendous educational system, some of the finest libraries in the world, access to information, financial and economic opportunities.

Spanx founder Sara Blakely started her company in 2001 during a rough economy without deep pockets. In 2001 when she started Spanx American had just gone through the dot.com bust where Wall Street was recovering from over investing in poorly conceived internet based companies where there weren’t even any financials available.

I prefer the words of Helen Keller when she said, “Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”

If you want America to be strong in 2013, 2014 and beyond, start with yourself, your strengths your vision of a better life. Then, stand up for these truths where God is present within your life.

The most important criteria for stable change is to acknowledge that real change takes time to fully anchor. Otherwise, you’ll expect big leaps forward, backslide or fall of the wagon, then return to previous self-limiting behaviors. If you do this it will create disappointment, discouraging feelings and unpleasant feeling states. Back sliding is the norm for almost everyone. Why is that?

It’s not that your dreams are unobtainable, rather it’s the method of creating huge, unrealistic expectation for sudden change which are lacking wisdom. Don’t stress yourself out by creating unrealistic expectations.

Find the best vibration or feeling state you wish to experience, then gradually remove whatever is opposing this higher and better vibration. Vibration here simply means a quality state of mind. You always know the feeling you want to experience after a change takes place. The clearer you are about this feeling, the easier it will be to return to this state of being.

the present. Follow the simplest path as you ascend the mountain.”

What you are experiencing in the present, as most understand it, is actually the manifestation of the past influences and habits. The “future” is the on-going process of fulfilling God’s Plan, and working with your higher Self to manifest the best life possible for you individually. The future means mastering one’s personality to reveal the soulful qualities which are your higher vibration, positive energy and improving your quality of life.

Here is a quick Three Step process:

1. Decide what you want to achieve – write it down in positive words and phrases. Write down the feeling state you wish to experience as well. For example, use phrase like: confident, strength, more energy, joyful, excited, calmer and relaxed.

2. Set reasonable, step-by-step goals to achieve them. These steps should be measurable, easily achievable and natural in sequence. Plan for this to take you 1-2-3 months to achieve in the early stages.

3. Monitor your progress through a journal or calendar to record achievement. Review this weekly without self-criticism. Acknowledge the successes and when you miss a day, don’t pressure yourself. Change takes time, planning and regular effort.
