Enlightened Self Interest Regards Healing The Environment is Positive Step -
We live in a fragile world. The recent BP oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico shows just how fragile our world can be. It only takes one thoughtless incident to point out how vulnerable we all are. Tens of millions of people will be directly affected by this oil leak. The beaches, sea life, food supply and eco-systems along the Gulf Coast of America and Mexico will be affected for years to come, maybe even decades. And, in fact, we all will be affected on some level. The financial, economic, environmental and health risks will impact many millions if not billions of us on Earth.
I want to share a quote with you from His Holiness the Dalai Lama about the environment. We simply must pressure our government officials and business leaders to take steps to protect us better.
“If you must be selfish, then be wise and not narrow-minded in your selfishness. The key point lies in the sense of universal responsibility. That is the real source of strength, the real source of happiness. If we exploit everything available, such as trees, water and minerals, and if we don´t plan for our next generation, for the future, then we´re at fault, aren´t we? However, if we have a genuine sense of universal responsibility as our central motivation, then our relations with the environment, and with all our neighbours, will be well balanced.” – His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Do whatever you can each day to protect life, the planet and your health. These are essential important acts of enlightened self-interest. Protect the world for the future, because your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins, grandparents and friends have to live in this fragile world.
All spiritual people seeking to create a happier life must listen to the call for action. Get involved in environmental education, pray for the health of the world, and take action for the welfare of the world. It’s your time to get involved. Don’t delay!
