The Healing Power of Gratitude

There is an enormous amount of in the experience of . This is a Thanksgiving post which applies to everyday health and happiness.

“Great is the healing power of the emission of gratitude. One must transform everything abstract into reality.” – , Hierarchy, verse 182.

How is gratitude healing?

Think about any unhappiness in your life, whether it’s a challenge with a family member, co-worker, mail man or something unfortunate you have faced. In all of these experiences gratitude is healing because it releases you from being trapped in anger, hatred, criticism, jealousy or judgement. If there is a silver lining in difficult situations faced in daily life, then the best way to find it is through being grateful for the crisis. As Master Morya often says, “Blessed be the obstacles for through them we grow.”

At first when you lose a favorite piece of jewelry, you curse, moan and fume. Then you let go of the frustration only to find another gem in the jewelry box which gives you joy too. Suddenly, you realize even that which is favored is impermanent, or that there are other wonderful things to enjoy. Then, you start thinking about how important joy is rather than being unhappy with the loss of a favorite bobble, and all the happiness is available to you once again. This is a healing moment.

Why does Master Morya wish to encourage you to experience when engaging the energy of gratitude in life?

You can chose happiness or accept the imprisonment of grumbling and complaining.

You can chose laughter instead of shedding tears. And, laughter is healing. Laughter gives you a sense of perspective. Attachments creates more and more suffering.

Gratitude is one of the most power keys to unlock the door to happiness in each moment. With being grateful you cannot digest the next bite of life. Ingratitude is like having a mouth full of food, chewing it but not wishing to swallow the yummy meal. Gratitude in in the swallowing which allows room for the next bite, the next mouthful and digestion of the previous mites. Gratitude opens the way for continued co-creation between you and Life together. Ingratitude blocks your way.

Thanksgiving Thoughts On Ways To Experienced Balanced Living

and ways to experienced .

is one of the main qualities of . Without one cannot reach the path of Great Service. Therefore, in pointing out the necessity for the realization of , We only assist the Great Service. How beautiful is !” – “The manifestation of prayer is communion with the most Beautiful.” – , Hierarchy, verse 182.

In this quote Master Morya is encouraging us to awaken gratitude as a way to bring balance into life. Justice is the way in which we live righteous live which are balanced.

Balanced between what you might ask?

Balance is when the process of accepting and offering, giving and receiving energies takes place in your life. If you give too much, there may be co-dependance at work in life. If you take too much without giving back this is the surest sign of narcissism, selfishness and egotism. Egotism is the blight of the soul, and blocks digestion of all the good which is given to us. A happy life is one of giving and receiving to share the abundance you enjoy with others.

Gratitude also keeps the heart open to the Presence of God in all things good.

Discourage Misuse of the Sacred Word Guru

Discourage the misuse of one of most , . It does not mean an expert, an ordinary worldly teacher of knowledge or mentor. Western society began to come to know this Sanskrit word through the stream of teachings and teachers coming here from India, Nepal, Tibetan and other parts of Asia in the past century. As often happens to new concepts we are unfamiliar with, it became hijacked by pop culture figures because they desired a new, trendy and “cool” sounding exotic word. By hijacking the sacred phrase , those who use is casually are damaging the sacredness of the meaning behind the word. It is fundamentally disrespectful to Buddhists, Hindus and Jain followers to use this beautiful phrase with a light minded attitude.

As often happens with typical fast moving news makers, they borrow power words without the authentic understanding of such a sacred concepts. This is a violation to all true spiritual people from another culture, especially to the several billion Buddhists, Hindus and Jain followers around the world. We now have a large number of Buddhists and Hindus living in the United States, thus news makers would be wise to cease using this sacred phrase. Let them substitute the word, expert if they mean expert, or thought leader if they mean thought leader.

This most sacred idea means many things on many levels. One meaning is the spiritual guide “one who builds the bridge of light between your personality and soul.” If you are fortunate enough to find a real Guru, you will understand this sacred word. Like the words God, Christ, Archangel, , Master, Lord Buddha and so forth it should be used with reverence. If you disrespect this universal relationship we all have some investment in, regardless of what religion or spiritual tradition each is affiliated with, then a barrier is built inside our heart-mind.

If you hear someone using the word guru remind them this is a sacred concept on par with the name of Christ, The Guardian Angels, Archangels and all that is held sacred. If you esteem others you are respecting yourself. Since Christ is a Guru of the highest order, even Christians instinctively know this phrase even if we don’t use it in this way. Christ is one who came to show the way to living in love, in service and how to align ourselves with Source, God or Goodness.

A great course on the subject of relationships can be found at a site we recommend. The inspirational and educational training class is called, ‘Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender Ram Dass on The Bhagavad Gita: A Heart-Centered Spiritual Classic for Your Ever-Changing Life’ by spiritual teacher Ram Dass. This course explores man’s eternal connection to God, Source and inner truth.

Blessings and wishes for you to connect with the guru within you, the Guardian Angel or Solar Angel. The Solar Angel brings offers It’s light while helping build the bridge back home.

If the Body is a Temple, Why Do So Many Often Drink So Frequently?

All forms of ethanol alcohol are powerful drugs. As a substance you can actually use it as fuel in diesel trucks, tractors and automobiles. It is now being mixed into gasoline to thin the mixture, creating a more clean burning source of fuel for cars. No doubt about it, alcohol in many forms, whether drinking ethanol, methanol or propanol (the later two are very poisonous) are powerful substances. One could easily argue ethanol alcohol, the kind we drink, is also poisonous to the subtle bodies of the human being.

You can test this powerful poisoning effect easily yourself by watching any police DUI check point. Watch people’s physical, emotional and mental agility decline rapidly after only several drinks. Or, watch one of the police reality shows where they pull drivers over and then interview them. Or, simply go to a party over the weekend where alcohol is being consumed like water.

Here is the question for spiritual practitioners from any walk of life:

If you believe how wonderful the body truly is, a temple in many religious traditions, why do you, or any human being so easy drink so much alcohol?

Before we launch into a short discussion about alcohol I know many reading this will react strongly in defense of the “benefits” of drinking. Liquor created for recreational purposes is something to enjoy on special occasions. When used to “relax at the end of a work day”, or to “party with” several days a week this is harmful. It gradually damages the sensitive nerve endings, chakras or energy centers and dulls the brain. These are the effects on the physical body and subtle-physical body, called the etheric body or energy body, but it alcohol also creates long term damage to the astral body, aka the emotional-feeling body and finally the mental or body of thought.

I’ll share these powerful comments from Master Morya, one of the greatest living masters working in the world today.

“The use of alcohol and opium are ugly attempts to approach the Fiery World. If Samadhi is a natural manifestation of Higher Fire, then the flame of alcohol is a destroyer of Fire. True, narcotics evoke illusions of a fiery approach, but actually they will remain for a long time as obstacles to the mastery of the true energy of Agni. Nothing brings such misery later, in the Subtle World, as do these unnatural attempts to evoke Fire without a fitting purification. One may imagine that in the Subtle World a drunkard not only is tormented by craving for alcohol but suffers still more from unnaturally manifested Fire, which, instead of strengthening him, consumes the tissues prematurely.” Master Morya, Fiery World I, 120.

If you want to have fun, reduce stress and enjoy life more, take up the path of meditation by setting up a special place to have quality time with yourself. Also, chanting mantra is a simple but moving way to overcome many forms of stress. Another practice many are enjoying today is yoga. Yoga is such a great form of spiritual stretching, deep emotional centering and relaxing. My son and several guy friends love cycling. This too is a great way to burn off stress, tone the body and keep in shape. Or, exercise at home or the gym.

Reducing alcohol consumption to an occasional celebratory drink, or not drinking at all, won’t diminish your quality of life in any way, shape or form. I didn’t drink for 20 years and didn’t miss it at all. Now I only rarely have a glass of wine once a month with friends at a meal. On other occasions I might have a glass of beer with a couple of slices of pizza. The main thing is not to depend upon this powerful substance to cope with stress, sadness, boredom or loneliness.

And, if you’re thinking it’s “my body, I can do as I please with it” then think again. You are given a body to use as a vehicle for expression in the physical world, but you do not own it. It can be taken from you in an instant through illness or sudden death. You do exist with or without the physical body, but the substance from which it is created belongs to the Earth, the stars, the sun and God, or Source or Higher Power. At best you’re using the body for a short time.

If you are here to awaken virtue, happiness and accomplishment as you can, take up and sustain all that will support you in this life and beyond this life.

Gratitude and Generosity are Inter-Dependent

and are inter-dependent. Giving through constant acts of is an integral part of the expression of gratitude made manifest. I find that at times the belief that gratitude just saying, “Thank you” is enough. But actually if we are to truly experience more of whatever it is we want in life there is a need for taking some form of action. Gratitude in words is just the first step.

The essence of gratitude acknowledges the of others, then opens the door of our hearts to extend this same gift back to the one who helped us, as well as others. For example, as a child my mother would make delicious meals for us. In turn we would often help with the meal clean up or washing the dishes. When service is extended to those who serve us, we are made full because the cycle of giving and receiving has been completed.

I love what author shares in the audio series Living from the Overflow, an attitude he calls “Practicing the Law of Circulation.” In Living from the Overflow he describes exercises for breaking down your inhibitions to money and clearing the way for prosperity. This work helps me be mindful that if we are to be prosperous in living a life of abundance, being generous with others is an essential step.

I am reminded that in the words of many spiritual teachers they always state that it is in giving that we receive more of all blessings. The bottom line is this, if we want to receive more money, a better job, more friends, more love, we must give more of all of these life enriching blessings to others. That is how we attract more of what we desire. Gratitude and generosity are how positive karma is awakened. Make it a daily practice.

I recommend Living from the Overflow as a primer to help develop these practice more fully in your life.

How an Angel Protected Me from an Arizona Rattle Snake

People often ask how angels help us in times of greatest need? Or, do angels protect us at all, in other words, maybe we just imagine angels by projecting our own needs and wishes onto them? If angels are present helping through daily crisis or challenges, how does the perform their work with human beings?

Some may argue the belief in the Angelic Kingdom is just a happy fantasy we invent. Others like this author have many experiences confirming the angels are here with us. If you believe either scenario, this story may provide some mind boggling insights about how simple and direct angelic presences are in life.

The answer to the question of how angels help us is most often through your own thoughts or by listening to your as a pre-cognitive flash of information. In this case I was given a strong, precautionary warning early morning in the Spring of 2011. As I headed out the front door to check on an event taking place on the south side of my home, a voice came into my thoughts warning to watch for a rattle snake. Was this my imagination? Or, was it just a fear of snakes?

I am not afraid of the rattle snakes. They are common in our high desert part of central Arizona where the Diamond back rattle snake and highly venomous often can be found roaming looking for a meal. The rattle snakes are my friends because they keep down the vermin, like the prolific pack rats, mice, squirrels and other destructive critters that live in my neck of the woods. I value their place in the balance of nature.

I’ll leave the rest of the story for you to watch on this video. Click here to see for yourself how angels are there to protect you and I every day. All you need to do is listen, listen to those inner prompting.

How to Select the Best Meditation Cushion

When teaching I am often asked what is the best for me?

The answer on how to selection the best support for your depends largely on the way you tend to sit on a chair. If you often place your body on the middle, the flat portion of the chair, select a full sized, round meditation cushion. If the zafu is full, you’ll want to force some of the stuffing down to make a small depression where the center of the spine rests on the top surface.

However, if you like to sit forward on the chair like a bird perched ready to take flight, then choose a half moon cushion, which is crescent shaped. The notched area allows you to rest your butt forward while tucking the legs in closer to your body. The legs closer creates more stability.

Finally, if your body is large, curvy and full sized, then go with an meditation cushion extra large size for added roominess. This selection is wider, taller and deeper giving you lots of space to stretch out.

The next question related to this discussion is the zabuton meditation mat.

Do you need one? Most definitely yes, unless suffering with sore knees and ankles is part of your spiritual practice, it is wise to have a to accompany your meditation cushion. Suffering might be encouraged in the US Marines, but a painful body does not burn off any bad karma in meditation. The purpose of the zabuton is to provide a surface beneath the zafu meditation cushion much like a placement under a dinner plate. The zabuton mat also offers a place to rest your prayer beads, place a book or other important spiritual objects.
